Austin Central Library wins AIA Austin Design Award

May 2018

We're thrilled the Austin Central Library was honored with a AIA Austin Design Award with a Sustainbility Commendation!

The Austin Central Library is a great project, a very impressive project, especially because of what it accomplishes for the city. I think Austin deserved a library like this, a library of this caliber. All of the sustainability concepts, the light management, the rainwater catchment system, it being a community center — it accomplishes everything.

University of Southern Mississippi Opens New Marine Education Center Designed by Lake|Flato

April 2018

The University of Southern Mississippi celebrated the opening of the new Marine Education Center on April 16 with a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory's Cedar Point site in Ocean Springs. "This facility is the crown jewel of marine educaiton at USM," said Dr. Monty Graham, Director for the USM School of Ocean Science and Technology. "I have been to many marine laboratories around the world. The MEC is by far the best of all of them. It will catapult us far ahead of some very prestigious marine education powerhouses."

Lake|Flato conceptualized the new facility as a place where visitors would "come and do" instead of "come and see." The six buildings on the site were designed to blend into the natural environment, tucked under the existing tree caonpy and nestled in the natural landscape.
