The new Biomedical Science and Education Facility at the Universities of Shady Grove broke ground in mid-October and will offer more opportunities in STEM courses for undergraduates. The building, designed by architectural firm Cooper Carry and its partner Lake|Flato is set to be "one of the most sustainably sourced and built laboratory buildings in the country," according to a press release from USG. The 220,000-square-foot Biomedical Sciences & Engineering Education Facility (BSE) for the Universities at Shady Grove — part of the University System of Maryland — is designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between healthcare, biosciences, engineering and computational sciences. Designed as a high-performance building, the BSE’s program is reflective of the region’s economic growth in fields supporting health and STEM fields. Slated to open in 2019, the facility will feature laboratories, adaptable collaboration spaces, clinical training technology, academic offices and student services. Ted Flato Presents to Chicago AIA Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN)

As part of the Pella Crafted Luxury Lecture Series, Founding Partner Ted Flato will present to the AIA Chicago Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) on October 20th. Ted’s lecture will focus on Lake|Flato’s incorporation of industrial materials such as exposed wood, and steel structures into residential design and the firm’s usage of strong regional vernacular to create some of the most original modern American houses of the last 30 years.
