EPIcenter - A look inside the adaptive reuse

February 2017

Lake|Flato’s Jennifer Young and Joeris General Contractor’s Gary Joeris led The Rivard Report on a sneak peek tour of the $74.5 million EPIcenter, a 109-year old power plant slated to undergo a dramatic transformation into a center for energy education and innovation. Located on the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River, the ambitious program includes a think tank, fabrication laboratory, exhibit space, conference center, community center, and outdoor venues that focus on energy innovation and industry.

Corey Squire leads Lessons Learned Workshop on the Living Building Challenge

The LBC Sonoran Collaborative: Phoenix hosted a Lessons Learned Workshop in Tempe, AZ on Feb 23rd where Lake|Flato’s Corey Squire shared the challenges, successes and lessons learned from The Dixon Water Foundation Josey Pavilion, Texas’ first Living Building Challenge™ project.

 

A Living Building Challenge Collaborative is community-based building professional group that provides opportunities for informal learning experiences and advances community transformation through development of Living Buildings, Sites and Neighborhoods.

YETI® Flagship Opens!

February 2017

This month Yeti opens their retail flagstore in Austin Texas. This adaptive reuse project will breathe new life into a neglected historic warehouse at the foot of Austin’s Congress Bridge over Lady Bird Lake. Envisioned as a destination for those faithful to the Yeti brand and an immersive brand and retail experience.

Bob Harris Lecturing at University of Colorado - Boulder

Bob Harris, FAIA, LEED Fellow, Sustainability Partner at Lake|Flato and leader of the firm’s Eco-Conservation Studio, will be a featured guest speaker at The University of Colorado - Boulder on February 13th. Evelyn’s Park: Lake|Flato Works on Bellaire's First Community Park

“There was an effort to acknowledge that history [of Teas Nursery] with the idea of preserving one [of its] elements,” says Beach. Evelyn’s Park will bring Bellaire’s first community park. Indian Springs School Featured in Architectural Record

Houston MATCH featured in Architect’s Newspaper

“Located off Main Street at the Ensemble/HCC MetroRail stop, the site was formerly a chain-linked parking lot for the city permit building. After years of planning and fundraising with a strong arts board and consultant and philanthropic pledges, the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH) came to life as a nimble metal-skinned building with glass-box theaters bisected by a double-height breezeway.”
