Bartlit Residence
Situated on a high and rugged cliff with commanding views of the Rocky Mountain Front Range, the Bartlit Residence celebrates the elements of its surroundings. It appears to emerge organically from the granite bedrock, and to shelter and protect from the harsh Colorado weather, while playfully tilting to capture the seasonal movement of the sun. The architectural palette of elemental stone grounds the house and absorbs the heat from the low-angle winter sun, while light steel and glass pavilions engage with the view of the distant mountains. Courtyards and interior atriums create a sense of intimacy, bringing light, heat and humidity into carefully arranged gardens, balancing shelter and openness.
