HEB Montrose awarded twice at ULI Gala

Our design of HEB Montrose was honored last night with the 2013 Urban Land Institute Development of Distinction Award at a ceremony in Houston. This annual awards program honors the top community oriented development project for the year in the Houston area. This project also took home the inaugural People's Choice Award in a vote open to ULI members as well as the general public. The People's Choice honor is a testament of the impact HEB Montrose has had in the community. The process for this project was truly a collaboration between the owner, the community and the design team. A community workshop was held to solicit public input. This culminated in the presentation of three design schemes with the public making the final decision on the preferred option. Some unique features of the building include: - HEB's first LEED certified building - Existing oak trees saved and featured prominently in the design - Patio seating for 160 with a stage for musical performances - Building that maximizes natural light limiting the use artificial light during daylight hours - Electric car fueling station - Bike repair station - On site food truck A great project never happens unless you have a great client. Big kudos to HEB, the Montrose community, and to our design partners that included Selser Schaefer Architects, Bury+Partners (civil engineers), SCA Consulting Engineers (structural engineers), and McDugald Steele Landscape Architects (landscape architects). The Lake|Flato project team included David Lake, Steve Raike, Chris Krajcer, John Byrd, Jonathan Smith, Amanda Kronk, and Andrea Sheets 10024_N7_blogsize
