Niland Lake House
The desire to live outdoors is an essential part of the design for this house. By pushing the house to the sloping banks of the lake, two different outdoor living areas are created. On the street side is a flat, sunny “play” meadow and the lake side is the cool, shady, outdoor room. Its main living space consists of a central, octagonal room with large openings to the outside and a central cupola that floods the space with daylight and opens up to augment passive cooling. Most dream of living outdoors; this house makes it come true.
