Elm Court Residence
San Antonio, TX
Rows of mature live oak trees border this lot, which is located in a well-established residential neighborhood. The two primary goals of the project were to create privacy from the neighbors, and abundant display space for an ever-evolving contemporary art collection. By arranging the house around a series of courts and interior “streets”, wall space was maximized, while creating private gardens that each relate to a different activity in the house. Large windows define views, while roof cupolas and high clerestory windows control incoming light. Large blocks of creamy, regional limestone clad the walls and bounce a soft light back into the rooms from the courts.
