Lake|Flato Inducted to Builder’s Choice & Custom Home Magazine Hall of Fame

Lake|Flato was an honoree of this year’s Builder’s Choice & Custom Home Magazine Wm S. Hall of Fame for Design Excellence, which “honors the creative minds behind many of the country’s most stunning residential projects.” This honor pays homage to the firm’s grounded history and roots in residential and ranch projects. The Mill Springs Ranch project also received a Builder's Choice & Custom Home Design Award. Read more about the residential award.

Lake|Flato attending TxA Design Expo

If you’re attending the Texas Architects Design Expo in Dallas from November 6th – 8th we’ll be presenting several of our own design stories. Join Matt Morris for a Fireside Chat about drawing and artistic expression in architecture. Tenna Florian will talk about the Dixon Water Foundation Josey Pavilion and pursuing the Living Building Challenge as part of a TxA Design Awards Panel. Hear Ryan Jones talk about designing the Phil Hardberger Park Urban Ecology Center at in TxA Design Awards Panel 2. Finally, be sure to stay around on Saturday afternoon to hear LF Sustainability Coordinator Corey Squire talk about Lake|Flato’s residential sustainability program.

Lake|Flato Ranks in Top Ten of Architect 50

September 2015

Architect Magazine just released this year's list of Top 50 firms in the country based on their annual qualitative review of design, sustainability and business success. Lake|Flato placed number 6 overall in a year deemed to be dominated by "especially fierce" competition. Congrats to our fellow peers who also made the list! Lake|Flato Honored with Six San Antonio Design Awards

November 2015

Of 43 entries from local architectural firms, including unbuilt work and student projects, nine projects were selected by visiting Jurors to receive 2015 AIA San Antonio Design Awards. Lake|Flato was honored to receive six of these awards:

Honor Award – Naples Botanical Garden Visitor Center
Honor Award – Alamo Beer Brewery
Honor Award – Blue Lake Retreat
Merit Award – Sunshine Cottage School for the Deaf
Merit Award – Briscoe Western Art Museum Addition & Renovation
Merit Award – Bluffview Porch House

Lake|Flato to Open Urban Development Office in Austin, Texas

August 2015
Lake|Flato Architects is excited to announce the opening of the new office in Austin. We have a 30- year history of sucessfullly working in Austin. Iconic projects designed by the firm include the Hotel San Jose, Univeristy of Texas AT&T Education Education Center and Harry Ransom Center. Scheduled to open in 2016, the new office will be led by Founding Partner David Lake. An Austin native, Lake is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and is a passionate advocate for sustainable urban development. WIth Austin's rapid growth over the past decade, the creation of the new office will allow our firm to build upon existing relationships and further impact the urban transformation of the city. Ted Presenting in AIA Houston Authors in Architecture Series

Join Ted Flato on February 26th at 5:30 PM as he discusses designing in harmony with the land as part of the AIA Houston Authors in Architecture tour. Ted's talk will focus on Lake|Flato residential projects that work with the natural environment to merge into the landscape. A book signing will immediately follow the presentation. Ted Flato Presenting at University of Kansas Studio 804 Anniversary

On Saturday, March 28th, Ted will be presenting as part of the [Re] Engaged Architecture Symposium, hosted by the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning. The event celebrates 20 years of Studio 804, an internationally recognized design/build program that seeks to build healthy communities through the power of design. Ted will discuss the impact of a sustainable, place-based approach to crafting healthy communities. Read more about Studio 804.

The Dixon Water Foundation Josey Pavilion and Hog Pen Creek Residence have both been selected as Architizer A+ Award Finalists. Designed to meet the rigorous Living Building Challenge, Josey Pavilion reinforces our commitment to artfully crafted sustainable architecture. Hog Pen Creek Residence, at the confluence of Hog Pen Creek and Lake Austin, celebrates outdoor living.

Bill Aylor Talks Urban Porch House at Dallas Architecture Forum

Bill Aylor will be in Dallas for the Dallas Architecture Forum Members' Meeting & Reception to be held at Bluffview Porch House.
