Epoch Tasting Room
Epoch Estate Wines’ historic 143-acre York Mountain property is the location for their new Tasting Room and Production Winery. The existing York Mountain barn was sensitively deconstructed and repurposed to retain its character and tactile material while the insertion of seismic retrofit and mechanical systems add a patina to the original structure. A low, flat, earthen roof and concrete walls shelter new support spaces that are quietly subservient to the historic barn.
An exceptionally phenomenal space in both scale and form, extremely well executed. The clean and modernist forms and materials come together to form poetic moments throughout the spaces and landscapes.Jury

The design scheme brings new life to the original winery, which was previously damaged in an earthquake, with a full reconstruction of the new Tasting Room incorporating original heavy timber, site fired brick materials, and a new roof system to streamline the massing. Crafted from local materials, the barn’s lofty spaces are inherently flexible and perfect for wine making.
