Palmetto Bluff Moreland Village Outfitter Building
The Moreland Village Outfitter at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, SC is a 7,600 SF compound of 4 buildings comprised of an Outfitter, boat launch, canteen/deli, classroom and staff offices. Situated in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA, the community environmental education and sporting center is design to reflect the unique cultural and environmental context and connect visitors to the Lowcountry landscape. The compound anchors Moreland Village within Palmetto Bluff, one of the largest waterfront properties on the East Coast, encompassing an extensive nature preserve, with river and ocean access, walking trails, a Lowcountry food and wine program, and a variety of outdoor sporting activities.
Designed to respond to this important geographical and cultural region along the coast, the Moreland Village Outfitter is designed to merge with the natural environment. The four buildings, porches and covered walkways frame a series of courtyards, shaded by oak trees, that double as outdoor classrooms and gathering spaces. The central courtyard and its lawn amphitheater frame views across ponds while creating a space for a variety of community events, programs and activities. Seamlessly connected to the Lowcountry landscape and dedicated to sustainability, the center achieves a respectful balance between humans, the natural world, and the surrounding residential neighborhood.
